For my project I decided to draw a sand dollar. Sand dollars are actually the skeleton of a type of sea urchin. When they are alive they are colorful. These sand dollars that we have are from Ecuador. I was interested in drawing this because i'm super excited to go to California this summer, so my mind is driven to the ocean. |

These are some of my sketches of possible ideas. The image is from the Disney movie Tangled, a version of the Rapunzel story. In the movie she makes a lot of paintings and I liked one particularly. So, I thought I would do a painting of her painting from the movie.I started out with a blank canvas and I drew lightly with pencil to outline where I would have the lines for the hill and where the trees will go. Then I got out my acrylic paints and mixed different colors to get the shades I wanted. I painted the night sky with a very dark blue with some dark teal. I made short strokes with a lighter blue to get a foggy cloud effect.
For my first Gamification project I made a charcoal drawing of a tiger. I started out with the idea of drawing it with pencil and then painting over it. After awhile, I thought of how my drawing was very detailed and the paint would take away the small details. So, I thought about different materials I could use that could really define the tiger. My decision landed on using charcoal. As soon as I started I knew I wouldn't be going back to pencil. The charcoal made this really cool thick black line that made the eyes really pop. As you can see, charcoal makes a great tool to use. I outlined the face to get a blank canvas to start getting deeper into the details. Something missing? The major lines that define a tiger. Using a photo of a tiger that I found online as a model, I started making the stripes. This was hard for me because I had to add extra stripes that weren't on the original picture. It was also difficult because when you draw with charcoal the dust comes off and can really smudge your drawing. I used this to shade in the darker parts of the drawing that would be orange if it had color. This is my finished drawing! I think I did a pretty good job for not having much experience with charcoal.
Reflection My feeling while creating this project was excitement. I was really excited to try out new materials and see the outcome of my drawing. If I were to add something to my drawing I would make a background, maybe a jungle. I would add this to make it look better because right now it seems like it's plain. Something that reminded me about something in my own life was that I thought this would be what I would be as an animal. I felt like it reflected parts of me. A message i'm trying to get across is that everyone is unique. A tiger's stripes are as different as a person's fingrprint.
For my printmaking project I chose to do my logo. First, I drew my logo backwards because the print will show up flipped. Next, I drew my logo onto the linoleum block and carved out everything that I didn't want to show up. Then I put the paint on the metal sheet and used the Brayer to roll out the paint and apply it to the block. Then I printed onto the paper. I cut out the "S" part of the block so that I could print it out in a darker blue and make the "S" in the puzzle piece stand out. I only printed the darker blue on a few prints. Then I cut out and numbered my prints. I picked my two favorites to turn in and glue on the board. |
